Does cowhide or buffalo hide make a better leather vest?

Whenever you go shopping for leather biker vests you will find that you are faced with some products made out of cowhide, some out of buffalo hide and some out of hog hide. You will also find that some products are made from much smaller pieces of leather than others.

So is there any leather that is better?

In terms of leather for leather biker vests then all of the aforementioned leather types can be processed so that they are soft and durable and are used in many different products. Cowhide and buffalo hide are the two hides that are preferred for use in clothing in Europe and the US, but this is due to the availability of the raw materials.

Are leather biker vests made from full grain leather?

No, full grain leather is mostly used in larger items such as furniture and saddles. This is the highest grade of leather that exists. The next grain of leather is the top grain, which is the second highest quality. It has somewhat of a plastic feel and is not particularly breathable, but it doesn’t stain easily and so this type of leather is what is mostly used in leather biker vests.

What should I look for in a leather biker vest?

When you are buying a leather biker vest you should be looking out for whether a product has large panels of leather or whether it is made up of a smaller patchwork of leather pieces. The only real difference between these two types of vest is that the one with the larger leather pieces will be more expensive than the patchwork vests as the patchwork vests have been created with leftover pieces of leather so as not to waste any.
